Frankie & Max have shared a studio for the best part of eight years. After the last three years in their old perfume factory unit, they decided to start thinking a little bigger.

As people that love to host, they set out to find a unit that would allow them to open the doors to their wider community.

As each job comes with its own quirks and needs, Half Baked has three tiers of pricing to help more photographers just get the job done. Our Half Baked attitude means we won’t charge a premium price compared to full service studios. By allowing the flexibility for you to choose your own catering and EQ options, you’ll be able to fit a job into a budget perfectly.

In recent years Frankie has been looking for a real, tangible way to actively engage with young female photographers soaring through the university system, but who aren’t represented out in the industry. Not to mention how expensive start up costs can be in this field; the creative journey sometimes gets overshadowed by expenses, making it feel like there are a lot of doors closed to you.

Open to all assistants registered with Bectu from 9am-4pm on Saturdays, Half baked proudly opens its doors to assistants to provide a space to create their portfolios free of charge, in the hope we can tackle some of the statistics, and nurture the next talent.

Why Bectu registered? Because Frankie & Max wholeheartedly put their successes down to their communities. As two people who came to London not knowing anyone in the industry, the importance of building and nurturing connections with others has been pivotal to them. The Bectu Photographic Technicians Branch is a trade union for Lighting and Digital Technicians who are working to standardise best practices and working conditions for assistants across the industry. Its Whatsapp group offers a body of people who swap jobs, discuss problems and find strength in numbers.

Frankie Turner

Frankie Turner is an award-winning photographer shooting campaigns for household names. With a career that started after an unexpected crossover in a coffee shop while Frankie was on shift, she’s been fiercely passionate about opening the doors to the creative industry for all. She actively engages with passing on her lived experience from graduate to photographer through university talks and is a firm believer that to keep the creative arts functioning, the next rung of creative minds need choice, space and time to create originally and organically.

Warm, engaging and brimful of ideas, Frankie is a favourite with clients for her considered approach from pitch to finished product.  She loves the process of advertising and getting stuck into a brief, fully embracing each brand’s ethos and style of communication throughout the photographic process.  Her youthful and modern approach often sees her entrusted with commissions to refresh a brand’s entire look and feel, with many clients returning to shoot with her time after time.
